Erect, much-branched, slender, 10-20(-30) cm. Leaves 5-10(-20) x 2-5 mm, rather distant and evenly spaced, linear-oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, grey and stellate-tomentose above and greenish beneath, or subglabrous and green on both surfaces. Stipules linear, about as long as the petiole. Cymes (l-)3- to 8-flowered. Flowers c. 20 mm in diameter; petals yellow. Capsule shorter than the sepals in fruit. Dry hillsides. S. Spain, S. Italy. Hs It.

Plants from Italy with linear leaves and more pubescent sepals have been recognized as H. jonium Lacaita , Nuovo Gior. Bot. Ital. nov. ser., 17: 609 (1910).
