Pubescent or subglabrous perennial 30-60(-100) cm. Leaflets 5-16 pairs, 7-30 x 3-10 mm, linear-lanceolate to oblong or elliptical; stipules entire. Racemes 4- to 15-flowered. Calyx-teeth unequal, shorter than tube; corolla 10-13 mm, purple or blue, wings and keel whitish. Legume 15-30x 6-8 mm, oblong-rhombic, yellow, glabrous. Seeds 1-3; hilum | of the circumference. 2n= 12. S. C. & E. Europe, extending westwards to France and northwards to 60° N. in Fennoscandia; absentfrom most islands.
