Erect, pubescent annual 2O-5O(-1OO) cm. Leaves imparipinnate; leaflets 3-8 pairs, 8-18x3-10 mm, ovate or elliptical, deeply toothed. Peduncles shorter than leaves, 1-flowered. Calyx slightly gibbous at base, the teeth subequal, at least twice as long as tube; corolla 10- 12 mm, pale purple or white. Legume 20-30 x 10-15 mm. Seeds 1-2. Widely cultivated for the edible seed and persisting as an escape from cultivation in S. Europe. [Ga It.] (? S. W. Asia.)
