Rather small, up to 20 cm, sericeous, with subappressed or erecto-patent hairs throughout. Leaves suborbicular, lobed up to |; lobes 5-7(-9), truncate or subtruncate, with long incisions and 4-6 rather narrow, acute teeth. Inflorescence small, with few, rather dense glomeruli. • Mountains of Balkan peninsula. Bu Gr Ju. Related species include:

A. exul Juz. , Not. Syst. (Leningrad) 14: 147 (1951). 5. Ural. Rs (C).

These 4 species are closely related to A. sericata Reichenb. , Pl. Crit. 1: 6 (1823) sens. lat. (incl. A. rigida Buser ) from the Caucasus, which is commonly cultivated in gardens and has been recorded as an escape.
