The plant from Kriti and S. Greece, usually a smaller shrub with more persistent tomentum on young twigs, leaves, pedicels and calyces, is regarded by some authors as a distinct variety, var. eretica (Willd.) Fiori ( A. eretica (Willd.) DC. ) and may deserve higher status.
