Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Pseudomutilla sardiniensis Costa, 1885 (male erroneously stated as female), by monotypy (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla capitata Lucas, 1849 (male), according to Costa, 1887: 157). The later designation of Mutilla capitata Lucas, 1849 by Bischoff, 1920: 54, is invalid.
Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Mutilla Linnaeus, 1758 ) by Dalla Torre, 1897: 5. Junior subjective synonym of Myrmilla Wesmael, 1851 according to André, 1902c: 24. Resurrected to subgeneric status (in Myrmilla Wesmael, 1851 ) by Nagy & Stamp, 1966: 495. Raised to generic status by Nagy, 1972: 163. Junior subjective synonym of Myrmilla Wesmael, 1851 according to Brothers, 1975: 591 . Resurrected to subgeneric status (in Myrmilla Wesmael, 1851 ) by Lelej, 1985b: 165. Senior subjective synonym of Edrionotus Radoszkowski, 1885 . Valid subgeneric name.
Sex association. The female of the type species has not been recognized as such; the female of its senior synonym was associated and identified (as Mutilla parvicollis Costa, 1860: 35 ) by Morawitz, 1865: 98.
