Type species. Mutilla odontophora Cameron, 1894 (male), by subsequent designation of Mickel, 1928: 32 (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla championi Cameron, 1894 (female), according to Cambra & Quintero, 1992: 465).
Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Rhoptromutilla André, 1902 according to André, 1904a: 38. Junior subjective synonym of Ephuta Say, 1836 according to Schuster, 1951: 8. Resurrected to subgeneric status (in Ephuta Say, 1836 ) by Quintero & Cambra, 1996a: 328. Senior subjective synonym of Arcasina Nagy, 1970. Valid subgeneric name.
Sex association. The female of the type species was associated and identified (as Mutilla championi Cameron, 1894: 296 ) by Cambra & Quintero, 1992: 465.
Distribution. Neotropical.
