Remarks. The specimen from France is part of the F. Vaillant collection of aquatic insects housed in the Zoological Museum Lausanne (MZLS); the specimen was mis-identified by Vaillant. Escalette is a small village in the département Hérault, NW of Montpellier. The specimen was probably collected at the well-known waterfalls. The species is mentioned from Austria, Croatia, Germany, Italy and Slovenia. The records detailed above are the first for Portugal and France. The species is related to C. wagneri Pusch from Corsica. Both species are easily separated, where the distiphallus is half as long as the basiphallus in C. wagneri , but as long as the basiphallus in C. oldenbergi ; the clasping cercus is almost symmetrical in C. wagneri , but with an apical swelling in C. oldenbergi .
