Crab‐eating Mongoose Herpestes urva (Hodgson, 1836) View in CoL
Crab‐eating Mongooses are mostly found in paddy fields and moist deciduous forests of North- east India. This species is seen at the border point of Bogoli camp and the village area near the Riparian fringing Forest ( Figure 3p View Figure 3 ). The primary challenges facing the crabeating mongoose include habitat loss and degradation, primarily caused by deforestation and conversion of wetlands to agricultural land. Human-wildlife conflict can mainly occur due to poultry farming. Conservation focuses on habitat protection and conflict resolution. This species is recognized as Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List, listed as a Schedule II species under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and included in Appendix III of CITES ( Table 1 View Table 1 ).
