Redescription

Adult (n 5); head: white labial palps with white scales above, with long black hair-like scales below, head covering with long hair-like scales, 80% yellow, the rest black; antennae: black and white in the distal part, about twice the length of the forewing in male, in the female slightly longer than the forewings; thorax: metallic brown with bronze and golden reflections; legs: covering of scales metallic brown and white, tarsal formula 0-2-4; forewings: forewing length 4.2–5.7 mm, ground colour metallic brown with golden and violet reflections, white median band curved towards the distal end, a small white spot on the costa between the median band and the tip of the wing, dark brown fringes; hindwings: dark brown with violet reflections, brown fringes.

Genitalia ♂ ( pl. I a, b, c View PLATE I ); uncus rounded, broad, flat, small squared above; tegumen broad and well sclerotized; vinculum rounded and broad anteriorly; valves: subtriangular with curved and truncated distal end; transtilla sclerotized, median protrusion approximately ½ as long as the lateral protrusions, with anterior extension fork schaped; aedeagus whit base truncated slightly arched horned for ¼ of the length; juxta approximately ½ as long as the phallus with sagittate end with rounded apex.

Genitalia ♀ ( pl. I d, e View PLATE I ): ovipositor with acuminate end in lateral view, VII tergite and VII sternite slightly sclerotized, sub-triangular.

Biology: adults are in flight from March to June and are found on flowers of Pistacia lentiscus and Erica arborea .

Habitat: Mediterranean maquis.

Distribution: southern France including Corsica, Italy (Tuscany, Elba Island and Montecristo Island), Sardinia.
