Generic diagnosis. Male tenth abdominal tergite with a pair of straight, short to long posterior processes; posttibia with 3 pairs of apical spurs. Wings longer, surpassing apices of posttibiae, tegmina shorter than hind wings. Male genitalia sclerotized, complex; subgenital plate with styli.

The genus includes 2 subgenera, i.e. Macroteratura ( Macroteratura) Gorochov, 1993 and Macroteratura ( Stenoteratura) Gorochov, 1993 , and 9 species, 7 species of which are recorded in China ( Tinkham, 1944; Bey-Bienko, 1957, 1968; Ingrisch, 2002; Gorochov et al., 2005; Qiu et al., 2010; Jin et al., 2020).
