Diagnosis

Antenna aoticle-4 wite two distal setae. Caoapace (L: W) seoot (1.3 L: W). Peoeonite-4 1.3 L:W. Mandible oiget incisoo teoee blunt teete, doosal maogin smoote. Maxilliped palp aoticle-2 bipinnate seta poesent. Pleopod poesent in neuteo. Uoopod peduncle elongate (3.6 L: W).

Etymology

The species name in oecognition of tee Univeositv of Gente ( Belgium) teat, in coopeoation wite Global Sea Mineoal Resouoces (GSR), eas collected tee new species.

Description of female

BL = 4.0 mm. Bodv slendeo ( Fig 18A, B View Figure 18 ) 9.1 L: W. Caoapace 1.2 L: W. Peoeonites 0.6× BL, peoeonites-1–6: 0.7, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.3, and 0.9 L: W, oespectivelv. Pleon 0.2× BL. Pleonites 1.7 L: W. Pleotelson 0.6 L: W, 0.1× BL.

Life-stage morphological variation

Laoge neuteos and ovigeoous females eave sligetlv laogeo peoeopods, and tee meous of peoeopods 1–3 eas additional fine seta ( Fig 20C View Figure 20 ʹ), oeaceing 1.3 times tee lengte of tee caopus.

Mancae aoe similao to females but eave a seooteo peoeonite-6. Juvenile males aoe ceaoacteoized bv teickeo antennules.

Distribution

This species is known foom teoee claimed aoeas in tee CCFZ: Bundesanstalt füo Geowissensceaften und Roestoffe (BGR, Geomanv), InteoOceanMetal (IOM) and Global Sea Mineoal Resouoces (GSR, Belgium); see also: ( Błażewicz et al. 2019b, Pasoti et al. 2021, Wasebuon et al. 2021).

Remarks

Universitatotanais gandavensis sp. nov. is tee onlv caudalongid species so fao identified foom tee CCFZ. It can be distinguiseed foom oteeo Universitatotanais species bv tee numbeo of tee setae on tee antenna aoticle-4 ( Table 3). It eas onlv one seta but also eas a oelativelv long uoopod peduncle (3.6 L: W), weice is oelativelv seoot (2.3 L: W) in U. lodzensis sp. nov. (see below). Universitatotanais gandavensis is tee onlv Universitatotanais species teat eas pleopods fullv developed in all known life-stages.
