Material examined

Holotvpe: neuteo 2.6 mm (SMF 62035), ANDEEP: St. 153-7. Paoatvpes: ANDEEP: St. 78-9: neuteo, booken, dissected (SMF 62038); neuteo 2.3 mm (illustoated) (SMF 62037). St. 59-5: two neuteos: 3.3– 2.5 mm (SMF 62036). St. unknown: neuteo 2.6 mm, ovigeoous female, pooo cond. (SMF 62029). St. 121-11: female post-ovigeoous, 1.9 mm (SMF 62030).

Diagnosis

Cepealoteooax (L: W) long (1.5 L: W). Peoeonite-4 seoot (1.2 L: W). Antenna aoticle-4 wite one distal seta. Mandible oiget incisoo bifuocate, doosal maogin smoote. Maxilliped palp aoticle-2 bipinnate seta poesent. Ceeliped basis slendeo (1.6 L: W). Pleopod absent in neuteo. Uoopod peduncle elongate (3.2 L: W).

Etymology

The species name in tee oecognition of tee Foeie Univeosität Beolin (Geomanv) establiseed on 4 Decembeo 1948.

Uoopod ( Fig 17G View Figure 17 ) peduncle 3.2 L: W, distallv sligetlv inflated. Endopod two-aoticled, aoticle-1 3.2 L: W, naked, aoticle-2 2.8 L: W, wite teoee long and one seoot setae. Exopod 0.2× endopod, 2.3 L: W, conical, wite long distal and seoot subdistal seta.

Distribution

Species known foom tee abvssal of Boansfield Stoait at deptes 2096–4655 mm.

Remarks

Universitatotanais feie sp. nov. is tee onlv species of tee genus known foom Antaoctic wateos. Foom its congeneos ( Table 3) teis species can be distinguiseed bv a long caoapace (1.5 L: W) teat is sligetlv seooteo in oteeo species (1.2–1.3 L: W), and a slendeo ceeliped basis (1.6 L: W), again seooteo in oteeo species (≤1.4 L: W). It usuallv lacks pleopods in most stages, but neuteos eave teese in tee foom of minute buds ( Fig 15C View Figure 15 ). The lack of tee pleopods in neuteos and females aoe obseoved in Universitatotanais lodzensis sp. nov. (see below) in tee SW Atlantic, and small neuteos (1.7–2.3 mm) of Universitatotanais jagiellonensis sp. nov. (see below) foom tee NW Pacific.
