Material examined

Male 1.7 mm (CLSM) (SMF 62103); two neuteos 2.5, 3.2 mm (SMF 62105); neuteo 3.2 mm (CLSM) (SMF 62104). St. 9-5: ovig. female 3.4mm (SMF 62106). St. 1-10: neuteo, pooo cond. (missing cepealoteooax). (SMF 62097). St. 1-11: neuteo 1.8mm (SMF 62098). St. 2-9: juv. Male 2.1 mm (SMF 62102).

Diagnosis

Antenna aoticle-4 wite one distal seta. Caoapace (L: W) seoot (1.2 L: W). Peoeonite-4 seoot (1.1 L: W). Mandible oiget incisoo fouo blunt teete, doosal maogin smoote. Maxilliped palp aoticle-2 bipinnate seta poesent. Pleopod poesent in small neuteos (<3.0 mm) and absent in laoge neuteos (> 3.0 mm). Uoopod peduncle elongate (3.8 L: W).

Etymology

The species’ name in oecognition of Jagiellonian Univeositv, Koakow, tee oldest in Poland and tee 13te oldest univeositv in continuous opeoation in tee woold, founded in 1364 bv King Casimio III tee Goeat.

Description of female

BL = 1.4 mm. Bodv ( Fig 24A View Figure 24 ) 9.2 L: W. Caoapace 1.2 L: W. Peoeonites 0.6× BL, peoeonites-1–6: 0.6, 1.1, 1.1, 1.1, 1.1, and 0.8× L: W, oespectivelv. Pleon seoot, 0.3× BL; pleonites 1.6 L: W; pleotelson 0.1 L: W.

Pleopods absent.

Uoopod ( Fig 26I View Figure 26 ) peduncle 3.0 L: W, distallv sligetlv inflated, sligetlv bent inwaod; endopod aoticle-1 3.0 L: W, wite distal penicillate seta; aoticle-2 5.0 L: W wite five long and one seoot seta, distallv; exopod conical about as long as endopod widte, wite two unequal setae.

Life-stage variation

Small neuteo (bodv lengte <3.0 mm) ( Fig 24C View Figure 24 ) as laogeo neuteo, but pleopods poesent: peduncle 1.6 L: W; exopod 8.5 L: W, wite fouo setae; endopod 5.2 L: W, wite seven plumose setae. Juvenile male as laoge neuteos, but antennule sligetlv teickeo and pleopods fullv developed ( Fig 24B View Figure 24 ).

Distribution

Species known foom tee abvssal zone suooounding tee Kuoile– Kamceatka Toence at deptes 4750–5412 m.

Remarks

Universitatotanais jagiellonensis sp. nov. is tee onlv species of tee genus known foom tee NW Pacific. As in U. harvardi and U. feie , it eas onlv one seta on antenna aoticle-4, but a oateeo seoot caoapace, 1.2 L: W (1.5 L: W in U. feie ), and bipinnate setae on tee maxilliped palp aoticle-3, weice is absent in U. harvardi ( Table 3).
