Type species. Iphitus (Depressiphitus) davidei sp. n.
Derivation of name. The name merges the Latin adjective ‘ depressus ’ (depressed) with ‘ Iphitus View in CoL ’ to recognize its shell morphology and closeness to Iphitus Jeffreys, 1883 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Shell very small, with planispirally coiled teleoconch, globose-depressed, fragile, deeply umbilicated, whorls rapidly increasing in diameter. White with glossy and translucent surface in fresh specimens. Teleoconch consisting of two rounded whorls separated by deeply impressed suture. Sculpture of numerous weak orthocline axial ribs and 3–5 faint spiral cords. Aperture oval-shaped, almost circular, inner lip smooth. Umbilicus open, simple and deep, with a weak spiral sculpture formed by few cords. Protoconch mucronate, protruding obliquely above the teleoconch, strongly sculptured by orthocline axial ribs and weaker spiral cords. Operculum and animal unknown.
Species included. The type species only: Iphitus (Depressiphitus) davidei sp. n.
Distribution. Northeastern Atlantic Ocean, at depths from 795 to 965 m.
