Range: —Southern Peru (rare) and Bolivia (LP).
Ecology: —Uncommon or locally common; epiphytic or rarely epilithic in wet montane forests, elfin forests; 2500–3200.
Notes: —Distinguished from M. flabelliformis and M. moniliformis and its varieties by the broad rhizome scales with numerous clustered, branched, clavate hairs at the scale tips ( vs. apical glands inserted on cell in all other Melpomene species). Often growing with M. paradoxa .
