Diagnosis. Prominent round black spots on crown along with small brown spots anteriorly and the aedeagal shaft with lateral arcuate lamellate processes on shaft, distinguishes this species from other congeners.

Description. Pale greenish yellow. Crown with one short brown spot near foremargin and one large round black spot at middle on either side of median line. Face yellow with one brown spot below antennal base and on either side of clypoclypellar sulcus. Eyes dark brown. Pronotum with anterolateral margin behind eyes brown connected mesally with dark brown spot. Exposed mesonotum with prominent black basal triangles, their basal half visible through semitransparent pronotum; mesoscutellum whitish yellow. Forewing venation in darker specimens brownish otherwise of same colour as forewing; one spot on claval margin between apices of claval veins, one spot at basal half of forewing, another more elongate spot at midlength, dark brown; a few veins bordering apical cells brown. Thoracic and abdominal tergites and sternites yellow. Legs yellow with bases of setae on meta tibia brown spotted

Crown about 0.7× as long as interocular distance. Pronotum 2.0× as wide as long, 1.8× as long as median length of crown and about as long as exposed mesonotum.

Male genitalia. Pygofer about 1.4× as long as wide in lateral view, posteriorly conically rounded, abruptly narrowed at basal 0.25; ventral process directed posteriorly, blade-like, twisted at about midlength and apical region narrowed, pointed. Subgenital plate about 2.5× as long as basal width. Style apophysis with subapical triangular lobe laterally and apex rounded. Aedeagus as in generic description, shaft with lateral arcuate lamellate expansions.

Measurements. Male 5.4 mm long, 1.2 mm wide across eyes and 1.3 mm wide across posterolateral angles of pronotum.

Material examined. SRI LANKA: Syntypes Thamnotettix greeni : 1♂, “ Ceylon , Biró, 1902” “ Pattipola 2000m ” “ greeni m, det. Melichar ” “ Thamnotettix ” ( MMB) ; 1♀ “ Ceylon , Biró, 1902” “Pattipola 2000m ” ( MMB) . Other material. 1♂, Pattipola , 25.viii.1977, I. Dworakowska ( UASB) . Syntype Thamnotettix cicur : 1♂, “ Ceylon , Biró, 1902” “ Pattipola 2000m ” “ cicur m, det. Melichar ” “ Thamnotettix ” ( MMB) .

Remarks. Melichar (1903) described C. greeni based on an unspecified number of specimens of both sexes (syntypic) with data “Pattipola von Biró im Jahre1902 gesammelt (Museum in Budapest)”. Distant (1908) redescribed and illustrated the species based on “a typical specimen kindly lent me by Dr. Horváth” and based on its figure, this specimen is considerably darker than the syntypes examined here and has dark brown venation. Cicurbanus cicur (Melichar) syn. nov. was described based on an unspecified number of specimens collected from “Pattipola (Museum in Budapest)”; again a specimen from the type series was borrowed (and figured) by Distant from Horváth. This specimen is similar to C. greeni except for the absence of dark brown markings on the forewings. The synonymy is based on the examination of Distant’s diagrams and descriptions.
