Phlogothamnus Ishihara View in CoL

Phlogothamnus Ishihara 1961: 248 View in CoL . Type species: Phlogothamnus maculiceps Ishihara View in CoL , by original designation.

Remarks. Ishihara (1961) adequately characterized the genus. It can be recognized by the simple, elongate sinuate, aedeagus without dorsal apodeme and long or lamellate processes. Linnavuori (1969) added one species from Africa. Li et al. (2011) dealt with five new species (these were validated by Dmitriev et al. 2024), in addition to dealing with P. maculiceps Ishihara and P. polymaculatus Li & Song. However , some of these species are wrongly placed in the genus (see Remarks under Monobazus ). Phlogothamnus grimeus ( Li & Wang 1998) comb. nov. is transferred to this genus considering its tubular, sinuate aedeagal shaft. Interestingly the species of this genus have the basal half of the aedeagus unpigmented and the distal half pigmented. P. maculiceps is here recorded for the first time from the Indian subcontinent and one new species P. umiamensis sp. nov. is described from northeast India.
