Remarks. Widely distributed in the western Atlantic, from North Carolina southwards to São Paulo, Brazil, including much of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico ( Felder et al., 2009); found in a variety of habitats, typically with sandy bottom, nocturnally planktonic, 1– 40 m. The present specimens constitute the first record of the species from Panama.
