Remarks. Widely distributed in the western Atlantic, from Florida southwards to Bahia, Brazil, including much of the Caribbean Sea and parts of the Gulf of Mexico (possibly a species complex) ( Anker et al., 2012); lives in subsocial groups in a variety of sponges; 1–73 m, most abundant shallower than 10 m.
