Remarks. Widely distributed from Bermuda southwards to Bahia and Trindade and Martin Vaz Archipelago, Brazil, including most of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico ( Soledade and Almeida, 2013); occurs in a variety of hard-bottom habitats, typically on coral reefs and in coralline algae, 1–30 m, but most common in very shallow water (less than 5 m).
