Discussion.̊ he narrowyellowmarginsoftheextensiveblack areaof the abdomen plus the whollyyellowscutellumwill permitreadyrecognitionofthis species.

In addition to examiningthe twomaletypesof H. nitida, numerous other specimens ofbothsexesfromsouthernBraziland the northernhalf ofArgentina (Province ofBuenosAiresandthe ̊erritoriesof Formosaand Misiones)were availableforstudy.

Studyofthreeofthesixspecimensfromthe typeseriesofBanasapulchella (Museo de La Plata, LaPlata,Argentina)confirmed Thomas and Yonke's(1990: above) synonymizingthisnamewithHellicanitida; those specimensincludedtwo males gluedtoonerectangularcardand one female gluedtoanothercard.̊ hemale double mount bore four labels:(1) (a) ƋBƋ.ƋOƋ.San ƋJƋuƋaƋnƋ; (b) ƋSƋpƋeƋgƋ. ƋtƋyƋpƋuƋs Ƌ; (3)anidentification labelin ƋBƋeƋrƋgƋshandwriting, ""Banasapulchella and (4) a circleofbluepapermarkedƋ7 Ƌ 1Ƌ-Ƌ2 and Ƌ1Ƌ4 Ƌ0 Ƌ8Ƌ. ̊he left maleis designated lectotypeand ƋlƋeƋcƋtƋo waswrittenonthecard behind it. ̊ he other male is designateda paralectotype,as isthe female onthe other mount. ̊hepinfor the female mount(remountedon a cardboardpointtopermitviewingventralstructures) bore three labels,thesameas1,2,and 4above;tothesewas addedaparalectotype label.
