Distribution. Western Atlantic— USA ( North Carolina to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, Brazil ( Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina) ( Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1980; Williams 1984; Rieger 1998; Melo 1999; Coelho et al. 2007; Nucci & Melo 2011; Lemaitre & Tavares 2015).

Remarks. Nucci & Melo (2011) reported few individuals obtained in São Paulo during the deep-water surveys in the Project REVIZEE (st. 6659, 2 spec., MZUSP 13866; st. 6660, 2 spec., MZUSP 13883; 16 spec., MZUSP 13772; st. 6665, 3 spec., MZUSP 13889). The distribution of this species along the Brazilian coast was reported recently by Nucci & Melo (2011) and extended by Lemaitre & Tavares (2015).
