REMARK

Among the type series of C. deleta , there was another female specimen from ‘Waris S. of Hollandia’ determined as “ cf. deleta ” and “ Clivina deleta D. det. Darl 68”. The specimen is not labelled as paratype. It differs significantly from the holo- and the three paratypes of C. deleta . It is treated under C. maierae sp. nov.

The species C. deleta is described by DARLINGTON (1962).

COMPENDIOUS DESCRIPTION

A small sized rufo-fuscous moderately convex species with the following measurements: body length 4.67–4.97 mm (x = 4.89 mm *), width 1.38–1.48 mm (x = 1.44 mm *), ratio L/W of pronotum 0.94–0.99 (x = 0.97 mm *), ratio L/W of elytra 1.83–1.93 (x = 1.86 mm *); (*n = 4). Labrum seven-setose, nearly straight anteriorly. Clypeus finely irregularly reticulated. Median part of clypeus straight, separated from clypeal wings by indistinct small notches, clypeal-wings directed fronto-laterally. Eye convex ( Fig. 2 F View Fig ), length shortened, directed frontally; gena enlarged, prolonged posteriorly, E/G 5:3. Clypeo-frontal furrow distinct, somewhat flattened. Neck constriction slightly indicated laterally. Frons moderately convex, smooth, facial carina and facial sulci distinct. Pronotum ( Fig. 3 J View Fig ) subcordate, indistinctly wider than long, flattened at middle in frontal view, indistinctly convex in lateral view, with lateral margin slightly convex, widest at middle, with straight part anterior middle, anterior angle slightly projecting, sharp, posterior angle small but pointed by distinct tooth, lateral margin finely crenulated, anterior transverse line narrow, sharp, not reaching extremities, disk with few minute scattered punctures, posterior setigerous puncture removed from margin by two times the diameter of pore. Flange slightly elongated, with basal transverse channel slightly widened, with basal carina convex. Proepisternum with rough coreaceate surface, laterally with some transverse wrinkles. Elytra ( Fig. 2 B View Fig ) long-oval, striae one to four ending free at base, interval three with four setigerous punctures, intervals moderately convex, all intervals smooth, glossy; interval eight with short carina at humerus and long carina at apex, third at base with tubercle. Abdomen laterally with isodiametric reticulation, transverse at middle, the two apical setigerous punctures widely separated. Hind wing fully developed. Intermediate tibia with five tubercles with setae above the spur at the lateral side. Front tarsomeres widened, intermediate ones slightly widened. Basal tarsomere of front leg carinate laterally, narrowed at base, with setose tubercle laterally.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 4 H View Fig ). Aedeagus nearly regularly arcuate, with conspicuous hook-like apex. Parameres asymmetrical, shaped boomerang-like, hyaline apically, with group of fine pili at apex.

Female gonocoxite and epipleurite ( Fig. 5 J View Fig ). Gonocoxites falciform, relatively robust, moderately sclerotized, moderately curved, with gonocoxites incompletely fused, with two long setae, with four medium sized setae. Epipleurite subsquare, formed by stable velum, furnished at margin with three setae arising from tubercles.

Variation. The convexity on the clypeus varies considerably. It is V-like in two, and much more flattened in the other two specimens. The expression of the frontal furrow varies as well.
