REMARK

BATES (1892) did not indicate how many specimens served for his description. According to ANDREWES (1929a), the type should be located in the museum in Genova. It is assumed, this is one of a small series of cotypes. Another two cotypes are curated in SDEI, investigated already in 2018 and compared in a one-to-one fashion with specimens at hand.

The species is described by BATES (1892) and ANDREWES (1929a).

COMPENDIOUS DESCRIPTION

A small sized fuscous to piceous subcylindrical species with the following measurements: body length 5.42–6.18 mm (x = 5.81 mm *), width 1.45–1.64 mm (x = 1.57 mm *), ratio L/W of pronotum 0.95–0.99 (x = 0.97*), ratio L/W of elytra 1.98–2.03 (x = 2.0*); (*n = 8). Labrum seven-setose, slightly excised anteriorly. Head with clypeus smooth. Median part of clypeus excised, separated from clypeal wings by distinct notches, clypeal-wings sharp. Eye semicircular, projecting laterally, gena small. Clypeo-frontal furrow distinct, deepened. Neck constriction not present. Frons with large flattened hexagonal area carinate laterally, steeply falling anteriorly, with small punctures on surface, with lateral carina fused with facial carina. Pronotum ( Fig. 3 F View Fig ) about as long as wide, distinctly convex in frontal view, moderately convex in lateral view, with lateral margin moderately attenuating in anterior two thirds, with slightly concave part in anterior third, widest and distinctly convex behind middle, anterior angle rounded off, slightly pointed, posterior angle with obtuse tooth not projecting, lateral margin nearly smooth, disk with scattered medium sized punctures, with isodiametric reticulation at basal declivity. Proepisternum with distinct isodiametric reticulation, laterally with fine transverse wrinkles. Elytra ( Fig. 1 D View Fig ) nearly cylindrical, striae one to four ending free at base, interval three with four setigerous punctures, intervals moderately convex, interval eight with isodiametric reticulation, other intervals smooth, glossy; interval eight carinate at humerus and apex, seventh with short carina-like step at apex, third at base with tubercle. Abdomen with isodiametric reticulation, laterally with medium sized punctures, last visible segment covered with reticulation and medium sized punctures, two apical setigerous punctures widely separated. Hind wing fully developed. Intermediate tibia with six tubercles with setae above the spur at the lateral side. Protrochanter toothed at apex, tarsomeres of same size.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 4 D View Fig ). Aedeagus slightly arcuate at beginning of apical third, formed like an arcuate longitudinal slightly hollowed out spoon, with median lobe at middle, pointed at apex. Parameres slender, with two apical and two preapical setae.

Female gonocoxite and epipleurite ( Fig. 5 G View Fig ). Gonocoxites falciform, robust, evidently sclerotized, with gonocoxites completely fused, with two long setae, one of them distinctly stronger, with five medium sized setae. Epipleurite triangular, formed by a stable velum furnished at margin with a row of five setae and an additional seta basally.

Variation. On the frons the large flattened hexagonal area is more or less punctured and shows in three specimens a few flat rugae.
