The terrestrial Heteroptera of Korea by Ahn et al. (2018)

Ahn et al. (2018) reported 41 species in 13 families new to Korea in their field guide for terrestrial Heteroptera of Korea ( Table 1). For the newly reported species, the authors provided habitus photos with a brief diagnosis and locality information. However, new data from this study were exclusively treated as unofficial records by Korean authors, most likely due to the non-explicit voucher specimen information for respective new country records ( Table 1). Even, publications like Kim et al. (2019a) used the same specimen and habitus photograph from Ahn et al. (2018), with the permission of the author, to report Tolongia pilosa ( Yasunaga, 1991) from Korea. Ahn et al. (2018) is a published work with an appropriate ISBN code (978-89-97429-94-3), thus the data from this book can be cited accordingly. Recent taxonomic studies (e.g., Chen et al. 2021 for Reduvius xantusi ( Horváth, 1879) ; Wang et al. 2021 for Fingulus longicornis Miyamoto, 1965 ; Wang & Rédei 2022 for Myiophanes tipulina Reuter, 1881 ) cited Ahn et al. (2018) ’s records while compiling distributional information for East Asian species of Heteroptera .

Of the 41 species reported, records already existed for nine species ( Tingidae : Tingis matsumurai : Péricart & Golub 1996. Reduviidae : Polytoxus armillatus : Cho & Kwon 2017. Coreidae : Paradasynus spinosus : Cho & Kwon 2017. Miridae : Apoderaeocoris decolatus , Pseudoloxops imperatorius : Cho & Kwon 2017; Heterocordylus alutacerus : Jung et al. 2017; Stenodema longula : Yoon et al. 2014; Zanchius tarasovi , Orthotylus bilineatus : Kim & Jung 2017a). Seven species were later redundantly reported ( Lyctocoridae : Lyctocoris ichikawai : Jung et al. 2019. Rhyparochromidae : Stigmatonotum geniculatum : Ban 2023. Pentatomidae : Andrallus spinidens : Roca-Cusachs et al. 2020. Miridae : Isometopus rugiceps : Oh & Lee 2019; Peritropis advena : Kim et al. 2019b; Sejanus vivaricolus : Oh et al. 2020; Ulmica baicalica : Oh et al. 2023b). Four species were reconfirmed and determined by later authors: Alloeorhynchus sp. ( Nabidae ), later determined as Alloeorhynchus reinhardi by Lee et al. (2020), Rhabdomiris sp. ( Miridae ), determined as Rhabdomiris striatellus by Oh et al. (2018) and later described as a new species, R. koreanus by Kim et al. (2019c), Tolongia sp. ( Miridae ), later determined as Tolongia pilosa by Kim et al. (2019a), Sejanus juglandis ( Miridae ), later reported as a new species Sejanus yasunagai by Oh et al. (2020).
