Kasumiphylus ryukyuensis ( Yasunaga, 1999) View in CoL

Distribution. Japan (Nansei Islands) ( Yasunaga 1999; Schwartz & Stonedahl 2004).

Comments. Ahn et al. (2018) recorded K. ryukyuensis from Korea based on a photograph of a specimen attracted to the light trap from Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon province. In the Korean Peninsula, a congeneric species K. kyushuensis ( Linnavuori, 1961) is known from various subregions ( Duwal et al. 2016). K. kyushuensis and K. ryukyuensis are extremely similar in morphology, and previous authors retained K. ryukyuensis as distinct species based on disjunct distribution and host plant usage ( Schwartz & Stonedahl 2004). Known records of K. ryukyuensis are restricted to the Nansei Islands in Southwestern Japan, matching the distribution of its host plant, Pinus luchuensis Mayr. ( Pinaceae ). Furthermore, both species of Kasumiphylus exhibit color variation regarding the color of the hemelytra ( Yasunaga 1999). The Korean specimen reported as K. ryukyuensis in Ahn et al. (2018) ’s work is a dark colored individual of K. kyushuensis , thus K. ryukyuensis is deleted from the fauna of Korea.
