Scape up to 30(-50) cm. Leaves 4-6(-12), 15-35 x 1 -2 cm, linear to linear-lanceolate, flat, suberect. Raceme lax or dense, with 5-15 flowers usuallynodding at anthesis; pedicels 4-8 mm. Perianth 10-25 mm, the lobes subequal, oblong to ovate, patent or slightly recurved. Anthers darkblue. Widely cultivated for ornament and naturalized in the Mediterranean region.
