Epilachna Chevrolat, 1836 View in CoL
Epilachna Chevrolat View in CoL in Dejean, 1836: 436; Hope, 1840: 157. Epilachna View in CoL [ sensu stricto]: Szawaryn et al., 2015: 561; Tomaszewska & Szawaryn, 2016: 24.
Type species: Coccinella borealis Fabricius, 1775 ; by subsequent designation of Hope (1840).
Distribution by States in the Northeast Region of Brazil. Ceará; Pernambuco; Bahia.
Species from the Northeast Region of Brazil. Epilachna cacica ( Guérin-Méneville, 1844) ; Epilachna clandestina Mulsant, 1850 ; Epilachna marginella ( Fabricius, 1787) [ new record] ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 20–25 ); Epilachna spreta Mulsant, 1850 [ new record] ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 20–25 ).
Comments. Although Epilachna currently has about 136 species, the number of species in Epilachna sensu stricto could be less than 80 ( Tomaszewska & Szawaryn 2016; González 2023). This genus is distributed throughout the Americas, with four documented species in the cacica and mutabilis groups in NE Brazil, two of these, E. marginella and E. spreta , represent new records for this region ( Gordon 1975).
