Rhizomatous perennials. Leaves opposite, deciduous. Inflorescence terminal, thyrsiform. Corolla campanulate, the throat wide and open; lobes overlapping to the right in bud, suberect at
anthesis. Anthers auriculate, adhering to the stigma. Disc of 5 fleshy scales. Seeds numerous, apically comose, otherwise glabrous.
