Diagnosis (amended): Alciopini with body divided in two distinctly different regions, variably covered by cilia. Anterior region highly contractile; parapodia consist of small acute chaetigerous lobe with aciculum, and indistinct dorsal lobe. Posterior region enlarged due to larger segments and/or expanded parapodia. Posterior parapodia trilobed, chaetigerous lobe with thin single aciculum and multiple capillary chaetae. All parapodia uniramous. Prostomium with two tiny retractile palps, without antennae. Pharynx eversible, unarmed, without papillae. Mouth surrounded by swollen lips. Two distinctly pigmented, elongate, lensed eyes, extending through one to several anterior segments.
