Scatophila pumilio ( Loew, 1860) View in CoL
( Figs 10–12 View Figs 7–12 , 21–25 View Figs 21–25 )
Scatella pumilio Loew, 1860: 44 View in CoL . Scatophila pumilio View in CoL : BFCKFR (1896): 244 (combination).
Type locality. Lower Silesia (as ʽSchlesienʼ), Poland.
Type material examined. HOLOTYPF: ♀ in moderate condition ( Fig. 22 View Figs 21–25 ), labelled: ʽSchlesien Scholtz // Coll. H. Loew // 14496 // Scatella pumilio m. [handwritten] // Holotypus [red]ʼ ( ZMHB).
Other material examined. BELGIUM: Knokke (Zwijn), 5.iii.1950, M. Bequaert leg., 1 J ( RBINS). GERMANY: Berlin-Jungferheide, 22.iii.1908, L. Oldenberg leg., 1 J ( SDEI).
Diagnosis. Body grey with pattern on mesonotum ( Figs 24, 25 View Figs 21–25 ); face not shiny, without whittish microtomentum; acrostichal setulae similar in size; wing with conspicuous spots ( Figs 21, 22 View Figs 21–25 ); margin of wing at apex of vein R 4+5 rounded ( Fig. 21 View Figs 21–25 ); knob of halter light brown; male terminalia ( Figs 10–12 View Figs 7–12 ) with epandrial anterior margin slightly projected medially ( Fig. 10 View Figs 7–12 ), phallapodeme Y-shaped, split posteriorly ( Fig. 12 View Figs 7–12 ).
Distribution. Palaearctic: Belgium (BAsTlN 1931, ZATWAR- NlCKl 2023), Czech Republic (KUBÁTOVÁ- HlRšOVÁ 2006, ZATWARNlCKl & KFIVAL 2022), Germany ( BÄHRMANN 1988, HOLLMANN- SCHlRRMACHFR & ZATWARNlCKl 1999), Hungary ( PAPP & ADÁM 1996), Poland (LOFW 1860, the type locality), Portugal (STUKF et al. 2024). Old records by BFUTHlN (1887), KRÖBFR (1910, 1935), SAAGFR (1970) are possibly misidentification of other Scatophila species. Remarks. Labels of the holotype and short redescription of Scatophila pumilio were provided by PAPP (1975). The species was erroneously synonymized with S. noctula (Meigen, 1830) by ZATWARNlCKl (1987), then resurrected from synonymy by ZATWARNlCKl & MATHls (1994).
