Description

Male pleopod 1.

Lineage L5 ( Fig. 4M–O View Figure 4 ): Exopod cordiform, with poorly developed, broadly rounded posterior tip; outer margin slightly concave with four setae in proximal part; width/length ratio 1.47. Endopod with triangular distal part, with row of short, slightly sinusoidal setae on inner side, smaller than in the other lineages of the T. exigua complex; outer margin straight, apical part without distinct lobes, apical part rounded.

Remarks

The material examined corresponds fairly well to the description and figures of the male pleopod 1 endopod of T. squamuligera provided by Verhoeff (1931a). This species differs from the lineages of the T. exigua species complex in having the male pleopod 1 exopod with a much less developed posterior tip and a greater width/length ratio (1.47 vs. 1.20–1.27) and the endopod almost straight without distinct apical lobes, with a row of much more reduced setae. All observed characters were consistent among individuals across all sampled populations.
