Syntypes: EEBP 282 View Materials , 3 View Materials (1 measured), 160.0 mm SL ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 ): Brazil, Minas Gerais, Ouro Fino, Mogi-Guaçu River at Espraiado waterfall, tributary of Grande River , tributary of the Paraná River , 24 Oct 1948 .
Remarks. Currently, the species is valid as Hypostomus fluviatilis (Schubart 1964) (see Isbŗcker 1980).
Three lots were employed by Schubart (1964a: 8) in the original description of Plecostomus fluviatilis , viz. EEBP 282 and 658 ( 2 specimens) and MNRJ uncatalogued ( 1 specimen). In the terms of Articles 72 and 73 of the Code (ICZN 1999), all those specimens constitute the type series and are syntypes, remaining as such until a lectotype is designated.
The lot we found has the right catalog number (EEBP 282) and locality as provided by Schubart (1964a: 8). This led us to recognize the individuals as part of the syntypes of P. fluviatilis .
