Smith, / R.Anderson, G.Zhang ”. 1 female (UNSM) labeled: “ CUBA: Holguín Prov. / Estación Ecológica   GoogleMaps , 656 m / 20.48613°N, 75.79152°W / 12-V-2013; A.B.T.Smith, / R.Anderson, G.Zhang ”.

Diagnosis. Dorsal surface shiny, setose ( Fig. 19 View Figs ); clypeus slightly sinuate along apex; antennal club much shorter than funicle and scape; pronotal lateral margin entire; prosternum with two spines basal to procoxae; metasternum setose; abdominal sternites shiny, setose, without opaque/pruinose coating; pygidium disc sparsely setose; male genitalia distinct as in Figs. 20–21 View Figs .

Holotype Description. Length 15 mm, width 8 mm. Dorsal surface shiny, setose. Head brown; pronotum tan with brown coloration around individual punctures; elytra tan with brown coloration along lateral, apical, and sutural margins ( Fig. 19 View Figs ). Head: Surface moderately punctate on clypeus and strongly punctate on frons with deep, well-defined punctures; setose, setae long on frons and along base of clypeus, short on rest of clypeus. Clypeus with apex strongly reflexed, slightly sinuate with middle slightly shorter than length of sides. Frontoclypeal suture well-defined, clypeus on slightly reflexed plane with regards to frons. Antennae with 9 antennomeres; club dull with strong microsculpture, approximately equal in length to antennomeres 2–6; funicle and scape shiny. Pronotum: Surface moderately to strongly punctate with deep, welldefined punctures; each puncture bearing a long seta. Apical angles moderately acute; lateral margins appearing entire but with weak crenulations, widest medially. Elytra: Surface moderately to strongly punctate with deep, well-defined punctures; each puncture bearing a short seta. Striae poorly defined, obscure. Legs: Protibia with 3 teeth, 2 nd tooth slightly closer to apical tooth. Meso- and metatibia without medial carinae, with spines on lateral margin. Metatibial spurs unmodified, shorter spur approximately 3/4 length of longer spur. Claws symmetrical with medial triangular tooth, apex unmodified. Venter: Prosternum with 2 spines behind procoxae. Metasternum shiny, densely setose. Abdominal sternites shiny with short, sparse setae. Pygidium: Surface shiny; sparsely punctate with large, well-defined punctures; each puncture bearing a short seta. Male genitalia: As in Figs. 20–21 View Figs .

Variation. Male length 14–16 mm, width 6–8 mm; female length 14–18 mm, width 7–9 mm. Terminal abdominal segment longer and more inflated in females than in males.

Etymology. This species is named in honor of Albert Deler Hernández (Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; ex Centro Oriental de Ecosistemas y Biodiversidad, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba) in appreciation of his collegiality during the field expedition and in recognition of his work on Cuban beetles.

Distribution ( Fig. 22 View Figs ). C U B A: H o l g u í n: Estación Ecológica, 20.48613°N, 75.79152°W (5); Santiago de Cuba: Dos Caminos, 20.18043°N, 75.77806°W (45).

Temporal Data. May (50).

Remarks. This species keys to Phyllophaga puberula (Jacquelin du Val) in couplet 11 in Chapin (1932) but does not match the description or genitalic illustrations of this species.
