Diagnosis. Body relatively large, dorsum with dense, long, suberect setae ( Fig. 15a View FIGURE 15 ). Head short and wide, dorsal side with dense, long setae, distance between compound eyes relatively wide; antennomere II relatively long, longer than antennomeres III+IV; mandibular plates black, transverse swelling, maxillary plates and anteclypeus yellowish-brown, labrum mainly black with yellowish marking, labiomeres III+IV mainly black, preocellar spots nearly circular. Pronotum short and wide, lateral margin shallowly convex, hemelytra with distinct variation, corium mainly dull-yellowish, dark individuals with complex dark markings on corium ( Fig. 15b–d View FIGURE 15 ); legs mainly yellowish, femora with wide black stripe on ventral side and dark spots on lateral side, tibiae dorsally with complete black stripe on basal half, tarsomere III of each leg blackish. Male paramere relatively stout, with long setae on dorsal side, processus sensualis with a small tuft of short hair ( Fig. 15e–g View FIGURE 15 ); parandria blunt, inner margin parallel, form a relatively wide sub-rectangular concavity ( Fig. 15h View FIGURE 15 ); median endosomal sclerites U-shape. Female subgenital plate nearly triangular, apex rounded, apical half pale.

Comparative notes. Saldula pilosella is similar to S. pallipes and S. palustris . However, S. pilosella can be differentiated by the presence of long setae on the dorsal side of the head and thorax, as well as relatively wide distance between the compound eyes.

Habitats. Saldula pilosella inhabits various riparian habitats and can be found near both salt lakes and freshwater bodies. This species appears to exhibit a stronger attraction to light, as evidenced by the majority of our specimens being captured through light trapping.

Distribution in China. Saldula pilosella is one of the most common and widely distribute species of China, including Heilongjiang ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Jilin ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Liaoning ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Hebei ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Liu & Bu 2009, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Inner Mongolia ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Wang & Li 2012, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Tianjin ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Liu & Bu 2009), Shandong ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Gansu (new record), Ningxia (new record), Xinjiang ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2012, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Jiangsu ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Sichuan ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Yunnan ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018), Xizang ( Chen & Lindskog 1994, Vinokurov et al. 2018).

General distribution. Widely distributed across Oriental, Palearctic, Saharo-Arabian and Sino-Japanese regions ( Schuh et al. 1987, Larivière & Larochelle 2018).
