REMARKS

Misonne & Verschuren (1976) reported this species presence on the basis of spines collected in small caves near Grassfield on the Liberian side of the mountain. We were unable to detect any signs of this species during our surveys. Grubb et al. (1998) reported the presence of Hystrix in Ghana, Sierra Leone and the Gambia where it was found in woodland and savanna habitats. This species was not mentioned as bushmeat by Bene et al. (2013) but Dufour (2006) mentioned the capture of one individual in Zouguépo.
