Type species: Yangavis confucii sp. nov.
Etymology: The generic name is in honour of the late distinguished Chinese palaeontologist Zhongjian Yang (also known as Chung Chien Young), in memory of the 121th anniversary of Yang’s birth. He was widely considered the founder of Chinese vertebrate palaeontology.
