2) Coenonympha ( Lyela) tekkensis ( Staudinger, 1886) View in CoL stat. nov.
Figs.: 3, 26–29.
Diagnosis: Large size (forewing length 17.2–22.1 mm, average 20.2 mm); forewing upper side dark rusty red in males, paler in females; outer margin brown, ca. 3 mm wide; apical ocellus generally visible; hindwings above brown. Under side of forewing dark rusty red, somewhat paler in females, outer margin brown, ca. 3 mm wide; apical ocellus always present, black, inside a narrow pale yellowish ring, and usually with a small whitish core; hindwing below brown, with faint dark median, postmedian and submarginal lines, but no pronounced grey submarginal band; row of submarginal ocelli generally present, small, pale, and with a dark centre.
Comments: All previous authors have regarded tekkensis as a subspecies of C. myops , but based on the genomic results obtained we here recognize tekkensis as a separate species, more closely related to amirica and macmahoni , than to babatagi and myops , from which it can also be separated by its larger size. The known range appears well separated from the other species of the group, but records from other parts of western Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are currently still missing.
