Anisops producta (Fieber) [sic!]: Giglio-Tos (1894: 11), “ Beirut ”. Misidentification (verified).

Material examined. Published records: “ Beirut ”, [ 11.VII.1893], [ E. Festa leg.], [ E. Giglio-Tos det.] as Anisops producta (Fieb.) [sic!], F. Cianferoni revid., 1 ♀, MRSN .

General distribution. It is a very widespread species occurring in the Afrotropical Region, North Africa and Middle East ( Brooks 1951; Lansbury 1966; Polhemus 1995c; Aukema et al. 2013; Kment & Carapezza 2022; Aukema 2024).

Remarks. The female matches well with compared specimens from northeastern Africa belonging to this species, regarding body size, synthlipsis, width of vertex and frons. The record by Giglio-Tosa (1894) of Anisops productus Fieber, 1851 (= A. s. sardeus Herrich-Schäffer, 1849 ; see Polhemus 1995c) is a misidentification of A. varius Fieber, 1851 .

Since its presence in the Arabian Peninsula, with records also from Israel and Syria ( Puton 1881, Brooks 1951, Polhemus 1995c), its presence in Lebanon was very likely. This is the first record for this country.
