Holotype: male, 7. VII. 2023, Pine Needle Camp (2050 m), 24.16239, 121.325044, Xiulin Township , Hualien County, TAIWAN. leg. S. Wu & S. S. Wu. GoogleMaps
Paratype: female, 6. VII. 2023, Iron Wire Bridge Camp (1950 m), 24.167148, 121.325074, Xiulin Township , Hualien County, TAIWAN. leg. S. Wu & S. S. Wu; male, same collection data as holotype GoogleMaps ; female, same collection data as holotype GoogleMaps .
Type specimens will be deposited in National Taiwan Museum, Taipei, Taiwan (NTM).
Male: Body small to medium sized for the genus. Rostrum conical, apex rounded. Compound eyes globular, protruding dorsal-laterally. ( Fig. 1A–B View FIGURE 1 ).
Pronotum rather flat, anterior margin almost straight, lateral lobe shallow, concaved inward, narrowing towards posterior margin. Metazona slightly elevated, posterior margin rounded.
Tegmina brachypterous, apical half exposed, reaching the third abdominal tergite in dried specimens. ( Fig. 1A–B View FIGURE 1 ). Legs. All femora unarmed on ventral surface; apices of posterior genicular lobes unarmed on both sides. Procoxae with 1 spine. Protibiae with 3 internal and 3 external spines on ventral surface, apices with 1 pair of short spurs on ventral surface; tibial tympana long oval shaped, open on both sides ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ). Mesotibiae with 3 internal and 3 external spines on ventral surface, apices with 1 pair of short spurs on ventral surface. Posttibiae with 13–18 internal and 15–19 external spines on the dorsal surface, 1 pair of dorsal apical spurs and 1 pair of ventral apical spurs, with 1 additional dorsal apical spine on the interior side. ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ). Abdomen. Posterior margin of 3 rd to 7 th abdominal tergite extended posteriorly in the middle. Posterior margin of 10 th abdominal tergite with a wide median concave, lateral lobes prolonged, extending over the apex of subgenital plate, basal stout, tips rounded. ( Fig. 1C– D View FIGURE 1 ). Epiproct semicircular shaped, fused with the preceding tergite. Cerci long, visible in dorsal view, basal stout, gradually narrowed towards apex; apical half curved inward. Genitalia not protruding, apex rounded or truncated with a thin median concavity. ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE 1 ) Subgenital plate broad at base, narrowing at apical half, lateral margins of apical half smooth, almost parallel near the posterior margin, posterior margin straight. Styli short, inserted on apical-lateral margins of subgenital plate. ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ).
Female: Overall appearance similar to that of male. Pronotum shorter than male, metazona not elevated. Epiproct narrow, near oval shaped. Cerci short, conical shaped, surface setose ( Fig. 1H View FIGURE 1 ). Ovipositor rather broad, curved upwards, dorsal and ventral margins smooth or with a small ventral spinule at the apex. ( Fig.1G View FIGURE 1 ). Subgenital plate broad and short, posterior margin with a shallow concave in the middle. ( Fig. 1I View FIGURE 1 )
Coloration: Body overall green to brown. ( Fig. 2A–C View FIGURE 2 ). Head with a pair of black stripes extending from compound eyes to rostrum, vertex with a pair of longitudinal strips in the middle, contacted anteriorly, forming a U- Shape. Genae with a dark band below compound eyes. Pronotum with a large dark patch on both lateral lobes, male metazona of pronotum with a pair of dorsal anterior dark spot. ( Fig. 1A–B View FIGURE 1 , Fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ). Postfemora with a large dorsal dark patch in the middle. Abdominal tergites each with a pair of lateral and a middle longitudinal dark band, each interrupted by a white spot, sometimes blurred in dried specimens. Ovipositor green to brown, darkened at apical half. ( Fig 1G View FIGURE 1 , Fig. 2B–C View FIGURE 2 ).
Comparison: This species differs from all other congeneric species in exceptionally elongated 10 th abdominal tergite lobes, and the number of hind tibia apical spurs.
Measurements (in mm): Body length: ♂ 8.6~8.9, ♀ 8.7~9.1; length of pronotum: ♂ 3.6~3.7, ♀ 3.1~3.3; length of tegmina: ♂ 2.5~2.9, ♀ 2.4~2.6; length of hind femora: ♂ 7.8~8.2, ♀ 9.4; length of ovipositor: ♀ 6.3~6.6.
Habitat: This species was found in conifer-broadleaf forest with elevation approximately 1900–2100 m above sea level. ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
Etymology: The name longicauda refers to the exceptionally elongated lateral lobes of the 10th abdominal tergite in males.
