ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Cephalops aucta Fallén, 1817 (as “ Pipunculus Auctus Fall. ”).

TYPE SPECIES: Cephalops aucta Fallén, 1817 (as “ Pipunculus Auctus Fall. ”) sensu Rondani, 1856 [misidentification; = nomen dubium under Cephalocera Enderlein, 1936 ], by original designation.

CURRENT STATUS: Suppressed by action of I.C.Z.N. (1961: 230 [Opinion 597]); senior (but invalid) synonym of Cephalosphaera Enderlein, 1936 [ teste this work].

FAMILY: PIPUNCULIDAE .

REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1856): Prothechus (page 139) and Prothecus (page 220). Acting as First Reviser, we select Prothechus as the correct original spelling, which relegates Prothecus ( q. v.) to unavailable name status. See REMARKS under Alloneura Rondani, 1856 for details on the application to the ICZN Commission to suppress Alloneura Rondani, 1856 and Prothechus Rondani, 1856 . De Meyer (1996: 19) incorrectly cited Prothechus Rondani, 1856 as a senior (but invalid) synonym of Verrallia Mik, 1899 with the type species as Cephalops aucta Fallén, 1817 . The true Cephalops aucta Fallén, 1817 is a valid species of Verrallia , but Cephalops aucta Fallén, 1817 sensu Rondani, 1856 is an unrecognized species of Cephalosphaera Enderlein, 1936 ( Hardy, 1959; I.C.Z.N., 1961).
