TYPE SPECIES: Mycetomyza sciarina Rondani, 1856 , automatic [by designation of the same species (by original designation) for Mycetomyza Rondani, 1856 ].

CURRENT STATUS: New replacement name for Mycetomyza Rondani, 1856 (as “ Mycetomiza ”); valid genus [ teste Marschall (1873: 338) ]; treated here as a nomen dubium .

REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1861e): Mycosia (page 12) and Micosia (page 169). Acting as First Reviser, we select Mycosia as the correct original spelling, which relegates Micosia ( q. v.) to unavailable name status. Neither Mycosia nor Mycetomyza has been treated in any of the recent regional catalogs; but Mycetomyza Rondani, 1856 and the species-group name Mycetomyza sciarina Rondani, 1856 are listed by Bisby et al. (2011) as “accepted names”. Marschall (1873: 338) listed both names in his nomenclator. Skuse (1888: 1147) listed both names simply as “insufficiently characterized”. Kertész (1902: 311) listed both Mycetomyza Rondani, 1856 and Mycosia Rondani, 1861 , as well as the species Mycetomyza sciarina Rondani, 1856 in his index, but did not catalog any of them or place the genus-group names in synonymy with any other genusgroup name. Since Mycosia Rondani, 1861 has not been studied or cataloged by specialists since its original description, we treat it here as a nomen dubium .
