Byrsinus nigroscutellatus (MONTANDON) comb. n.
( Figs 1-2)
Byrsinocoris nigroscutellatus MONTANDON, 1900: 157 [5 in separatum].
Dallonia pangaeoides BERGEVIN, 1936: 65 , syn. by LIS, 1999: 190.
Redescript,ion
Body ovate (Fig. l), about 1.4- 1.5 times as long as wide (body length: 4.40-5.00 mm, body width: 3.13-3.46 mm). Dorsal body surface yellowish brown to brown with head, pronotum and scutellum generally darker (reddish brown to dark castaneous) than hemelytra; entire clypeus or its apical part, anterior and posterior margins of pronotum and apex of scutellum sometimes paler than remaining surface of head, pronotum and scutellum, respectively.
Head dorsally weakly punctate with small (more numerous) and medium sized (less numerous) punctures; clypeus as long as or slightly longer than paraclypei, impunctate in apical two thirds, and subapically with a pair of setigerous punctures bearing long hair-like setae; lateral margins of paraclypei declivent making the paraclypeal carina and setigerous punctures invisible in dorsal view; each paraclypeus with a submarginal row of 14-20 setigerous punctures bearing long hair-like setae, peg-like setae absent; eyes brown to reddish brown, each with a long apical seta, ocular index about 4.7-5.3; ocelli small, reddish brown, ocellar index about 8.3-11.5; antennae yellowish brown to brown, its 2 nd segment 1.15-1.20 times longer than the 3 rd; bucculae very narrow, posteriorly broadened, alutaceous and almost impunctate; gular plate impunctate or with a few hardly visible colourless punctures, posteriorly bearing short, shining bristles; rostrum yellowish brown to brown, reaching or almost reaching mid coxae.
Pronotum broad, about 2.4-2.5 times broader than its width, pronotal disc more or less densely punctate with small and medium sized punctures, calla] areas smooth and impunctate; umbones only slightly swollen; anterior margin roundedly concave; lateral margin of pronotal disc with numerous (about 50-70) very long hair-like setae each.
Scutellum sparsely punctate, antero-lateral angles and median basal part of scutellar disc impunctate.
Corium with almost colourless punctures, larger and better visible than those on scutellum; clavus with one complete, one almost complete and one partial row of punctures; mesocorium with two rows of punctures paralleling clavo-corial suture, remaining surface of mesocorial disc almost evenly punctured; costa with a row of numerous (about 30-45) very long hair-like setae; membrane semihyaline, reaching the tip of abdomen.
Propleuron impunctate, with a few tiny punctures in the depression; meso- and metapleural evaporatoria typical of the genus, apex of peritreme elongated; lateral parts of mesoand metapleuron impunctate and polished.
Hind tibiae slightly bent apically, its dorsal side flattened and unarmed, ventral side armed in numerous strong setae.
Abdominal sterna punctured, segments covered with long hair-like setae, especially numerous along lateral margins. Detailed description of the male genitalia was presented by WAGNER (1964).
Type material
Lectotype male of Byrsinocoris nigroscutellatus MONTANDON (designated by SIENKIEWICZ, 1964: 136, as Type): Byrsinocoris nigroscutellatus Montand. , Type [handwriten label - Fig. 3]; environs de Biskra, de Vauloger [printed label - Fig. 4]; housed in the collection of the "Grigore Antipa" Museum of Natural History in Bucharest, Romania. The type specimen is somewhat damaged ( Figs 1 -2); genitalia are glued on a separate label (they were most probably prepared by E. WAGNER) .
Distribution
Algeria ( MONTANDON 1900), Chad ( BERGEVIN 1936), Egypt ( LIS 2001a), Libya ( LIS 1999), Mauretania ( LIS 1999). The record from Iraq indicated by me in the Old World catalogue of Cydnidae ( LIS 1999) was an misinterpretation of the locality in Oman ( LINNAVUORI 1993).
Remarks
The redescription is based on the type material and the other specimens studied and already published ( LIS 1999, 2001a).
