Published records by country. Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama ( Jäch et al. 2016).
Type Locality. Volcán (2000–3000 ft), Chiriquí, Panama .
Published records in Mexico. Chiapas, Estado de México, Guerrero ( Hinton 1940, 1971, 1972; Santiago-Fragoso & Spangler 2000; Luna-Luna et al. 2022).
New state record. Mexico: Veracruz.
Material examined. MEXICO: VERACRUZ: Mpio. Coatepec, Coatepec, Río Huehueyapan ( Sección La Marina ), 19º26'55''N, 96º58'52''W, 1200 m, Bosque Mesófilo de Montaña , 30-IV-2001, Arce-Pérez, R GoogleMaps . col. (1♂, 1♀ IEXA); same but 01-V-2002 (1♀ IEXA); Mpio. Coatepec, Arroyo Ahuacatlán, cascada Los Tecajetes , 19º28'19.90''N, 96º59'04.65''W, 1369 m, 29-III-2001, Arce-Pérez, R GoogleMaps . col. (1♂ IEXA) .
Distribution in Mexico. Similar to A. formosus , this species is distributed in the central and southern parts of the country ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ), occurring also in streams below 2,000 m.a.s.l. and with most of its records in the Balsas Basin, Pacific Lowlands, and Veracruzan biogeographical provinces. The record from Estado de México is in the Balsas Basin province. The localities in the southern part of Guerrero and those in the southernmost (below 1,000 m.a.s.l.) and western Chiapas are in the Pacific Lowlands province. Also, the records from southern Chiapas (above 1,000 m.a.s.l.) are on the border between the Pacific Lowlands and the Chiapas Highlands provinces, and the record from North Central Chiapas is in this latter province. Lastly, the new state record from Veracruz is based on localities on the border between the Transmexican Volcanic Belt and the Veracruzan provinces.
