Notes. Bormans (1883) mistakenly identified material from Mexico as Ancistrogaster luctuosus Stal 1855 View in CoL , noticing differences between what was described by Stål (1855) from Brazil and two males from Mexico, but never described a new species. Kirby (1903) assumed that Bormans (1883) described a new homonymous species and replaced it with the specific epithet burri View in CoL .

We consider that the replacement by homonymy of Kirby (1903) is not needed, and thus, consider Ancistrogaster burri Kirby 1903 as a nomen dubium stat. nov. The record of two males from Mexico A. luctuosus [ID error] by Bormans (1883) corresponds to Ancistrogaster spinax .
