LITERATURE RECORDS: Cognetti-Varriale & Zunarelli-Vandini 1978; Sordino 1989; Požar-Domac 1994; Castelli et al. 2008.
REMARKS: According to Riser (2000) M. aberrans is not present in European waters and most of the previous North European records of that species correspond to M. pettiboneae Riser, 2000 . The Adriatic specimens of M. aberrans may also refer to this latter species or to an undescribed species.
