Maruina (Maruina) barrettoi Bravo, 2005: 640–642 View in CoL .
Maruina pilosella View in CoL ; Barreto, 1954: 64 (misidentification).
Diagnosis. Combination of the following characters: R 5 connected to M 1 at base; anterior aedeagal spines thin and not reaching the apical 1/3 of aedeagus, posterior spines thick, numerous and strongly sclerotized.
Material examined. Type material: paratype: ♂ BRAZIL, São Paulo, Rancharia, Usina Caiuá (type locality), viii.1940, col. M. Barretto ( MZFS) ; Paratype ♀ same data . Other material: 2 ♀, 13 ♂ BRAZIL, Santa Catarina, São Joaquim, Rio Pelotas (#9), 28°28’46.5”S; 50°04’27.1”W, 853m. a.n.m. 21.viii.2013, col. Hamada, N., Nascimento, J.M.C. & Fusari, L. ( INPA) GoogleMaps .
Distribution. Brazil ( São Paulo, Santa Catarina).
Remarks. Bravo (2005) provided a differential diagnosis for M. ( M.) barrettoi and M. ( M.) pilosella based on the drawings of male terminalia of Müller (1895). We include here, complete illustrations of the male and female head ( Figs. 24–25 View FIGURE 24–28 ), an illustration of the wing, showing the connection between vein R 5 and M 1 ( Fig. 26 View FIGURE 24–28 ) and a detailed illustration of female hypogynium, showing the internal lateral bristles ( Figs. 27–28 View FIGURE 24–28 ). The connection of veins R 5 and M 1 is found in both males and females, but this can vary from a well delimited to a faint connection.
