Diagnosis. This species is similar to Coptotriche rosella (Gerasimov, 1937) in the male genitalia, but it can be distinguished by the forewing mixed with yellow and dark brown scales evenly but without a cilia-line, in the male genitalia by the phallus not constricted distally. In C. rosella , the forewing has dense brown scales at tornus and the cilia-line formed by a row of brown scales; and the phallus is distinctly constricted at distal 1/ 7 in the male genitalia ( Diškus 1998: 28, fig. 21).
Host plants. Prunus sp. , Armeniaca sp. and Persica sp. ( Rosaceae ) ( Cao et al. 1983); Cerasus microcarpa , C. vulgaris , Prunus domestica and P. spinosa ( Rosaceae ) ( Puplesis & Diškus 2003). In this study, we found C. gaunacella fed on Prunus persica ( Rosaceae ) in Xinjiang, China.
Distribution. China ( Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Xinjiang), Caucasus, Europe, Iran, Turkmenistan.
Remarks. Cao et al. (1983) recorded this species from Beijing, Hebei and Shanxi. We firstly report its occurrence in Xinjiang, China.
