Note. This species has an exclusively Western Palaearctic distribution, but its range is rather small, occurring mainly in Central Europe. Cerceris hortivaga is not found in northern Europe or the arid southern regions. Furthermore, the easternmost specimens have been found almost along one line, limited to around the 37th meridian in Europe (in the Russian provinces of Orel and Tula) and Turkey (in the town of Gürün). Cerceris hortivaga appears to be more mesophilic than closely related species. It is biologically very similar to Cerceris rybyensis ( Linnaeus, 1771) , with which it often occurs together, and which completely replaces it further east.
